Seekt Quick Guide: The Live News Feed
Welcome to the Seekt Quick Guide series. In this episode, we are looking at the live news feed — the real-time information stream that keeps players engaged during a game.
During gameplay, a news feed appears at the top of each player's hunt list. It shows short, colour-coded messages about events happening in the game. These messages appear with a brief animation and dismiss themselves automatically after a few seconds.
The feed covers a wide range of events. Players see rank changes — if they move up or down the leaderboard, or if they take the lead. They see when another team takes first place, when a tie forms between teams, and when a competitor is closing in on their score or pulling away.
If an exclusive item is claimed by another team, the feed announces it so players know to stop looking. When a hidden bonus item unlocks after completing a trigger, the feed tells them to check their list. If a timed item becomes available or is about to expire, the feed warns them.
Timer alerts appear at key thresholds — ten minutes remaining, five minutes, one minute, and the halfway mark. If the host adds bonus time, the feed announces it. If the host rejects a submission, the feed lets the player know they can resubmit.
Zone alerts are part of the feed too. If a player wanders outside the game zone, they see a warning. When they come back in, they see a confirmation.
Each feed item is colour-coded. Green for positive events like ranking up or bonus items unlocking. Red for warnings like time running out or exclusive items being claimed. Orange for close competitions. Yellow for first-place changes. Blue for informational updates like new teams joining.
Players can toggle the feed off if they prefer a cleaner view. It is on by default because most players find it adds energy and urgency to the game without being distracting.
The feed is generated entirely on the player's device by comparing each refresh cycle's leaderboard data to the previous one. This means it works without any extra server load and updates in sync with the rest of the game data.
